Organization Overview

Topeka Youth Project offers a free, comprehensive workforce development program for youth ages 15 to 21. The program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently enter the job market, secure employment, and thrive in the workplace. The services focus on job readiness, skill development, and personal growth to help youth succeed in their careers.

Target Demographics

Topeka Youth Project serves the following groups:

  • Youth:
    • English language learners
    • Youth from low-income families, homeless or housing-insecure youth, and underserved communities
    • Foster youth or youth transitioning out of foster care
    • Youth involved in the criminal justice system (juvenile justice system, probation, diversion programs)
    • LGBTQ+ youth, youth facing discrimination or family rejection, and youth seeking gender-affirming services
    • Youth with limited educational attainment (high school dropouts, youth without a high school diploma)
    • Teen parents or youth balancing parenthood with education or work
    • Youth in recovery from substance abuse or involved in substance abuse prevention programs
    • Youth with mental health challenges

Job Placement & Work-Based Learning Opportunities:

  • Full-time and part-time job placements
  • Paid and unpaid internship placements
  • Temporary job placements

Career Readiness Services:

  • Job search assistance, job matching, and job screening
  • Interview space for virtual or in-person interviews
  • Job coaching and career pathways/exploration
  • Workshops, resume writing assistance, and interview training
  • Basic skills and soft skills training
  • Financial literacy and planning

Additional Services

  • The program helps youth navigate the job market, prepare for interviews, advance personal growth, and learn technology skills for a competitive edge.
